Meet your People to People Delegation and board your international flight to Madrid.  Start limiting your English
and begin transitioning to Spanish. For the next month you’ll be immersed in the Spanish language and you’ll be
expected to do your best to try and speak Spanish!

Welcome to Madrid! A specially-designed orientation showcases the Spanish capital and its world-renowned landmarks in all their splendor. Unearth the secrets of the city, treasures of the Royal Palace, and history of the people.

Day 3

Be guided through the historic city of Madrid by Spanish students. This unique intercultural activity will enable you to explore like a local, including making a visit to the world-renowned Prado Museum. Make friends with your guides as you shop for mementos. This is international networking like never before!

Segovia, Spain

Roman Aqueduct

Day 4

Today, leave Madrid for Segovia. You will be joined by a professional guide for your visit to this impressive city. See the famous Roman aqueduct. Segovia’s aqueduct is two thousand years old and is still in immaculate condition. Visit the beautiful Alcazar, which is said to have been the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Finally, finish off your day by trying cochinillo (roasted suckling pig), which is Segovia’s local dish and a favorite throughout Spain.

Day 5

Today you will drive to Bilbao. En route, stop for lunch in the old capital of Spain–Burgos. Once in Bilbao your Delegation Manager will lead an  orientation tour of the city and a chance to see the world famous Guggenheim, before dinner and checking in to your hotel.

Day 7

San Sebastian is a beautiful seaport town known for its beaches, art and food.  Today you will have the opportunity to discover Spain’s most famous size dish. Tapas. Join a professional chef and learn some typical Spanish dishes during your tapas workshop. Once you have perfected your skills and enjoyed your dishes, it is time to put your feet up and relax on the beach.

Day 8

Visit Zaragoza and the Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar, a beautiful Cathedral which is said to be the first church dedicated to Mary, and believed to be integral in bringing Christianity to Spain. After your visit, you will proceed to Barcelona.

Day 9

Today you will have the opportunity to discover new beach sports as you meet and spend the day with local students from Barcelona. This is a great opportunity to put your Spanish skills to good use with new local friends while you spend the day on Barcelona’s famous beaches.

Day 10

Joined by a local expert guide, lose yourself in the fantasy-like architecture of Gaudi, including the world-famous La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell, providing a fantastic blend of architecture and nature. The afternoon scavenger hunt, will allow you to explore, learn and practice your language as you source the answers to make sure your team is victorious.

Day 11-17

Wave goodbye to Barcelona, and say hello to Valencia and your Spanish Homestay Family. During an exclusive People to People Homestay, you’ll embrace the Spanish way of life alongside your homestay family. As one of the most popular aspects of the program, your time with a local family provides a perspective that very few have the chance to experience. On our Spanish Immersion program, it is all about the language and your homestay experience will be no different. Spanish at home, and then during the day, you’ll meet up with your PTP delegation and attend a local Spanish school.

Say goodbye to your host families. Make sure you swapped details before boarding the coach to drive to Granada, a beautiful city with great examples of Medieval architecture dating back to the Moorish occupation.

Attend a local school and join an English class, share with the class what high school is like in the USA and help the Spanish students practice their English. This afternoon you will visit the jewel of Granada–The Alhambra. Constructed in AD 889 and originally constructed as a small fortress before being renovated and rebuilt into the beautiful palace you see today.

Day 21

Explore more of the Andalusia region as you drive south to Malaga. A major vacation destination to Europeans, Malaga is also the home of Picasso. This afternoon visit the birthplace of Picasso, before trying your hand at some painting in a Picasso Artist workshop.

The King's Little Pathway

Day 22

Walk along El Caminito del Rey, this walkway is pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge. It was originally built for local workers at two power plants to transport materials. King Alfonso XIII walked along it in 1921 and ever since it has had its royal connection.

Gibraltar

Day 23

A little bit of Great Britain can be found 90 miles south of Malaga. Gibraltar is a British Oversees Territory. Take the cable car up to the top of the rock, and take in the stunning views over the Straights of Gibraltar and across to North Africa. The top of the rock is also home to around 230 Barbary Macaques which will try and steal any food you have with you. Explore the hidden parts of this fascinating place as you go down into the cavernous St Michael’s Caves.

A Day Trip to Morocco

Day 24

Today you will board a ferry and cross over to Morocco. With your local guide explore the city of Tangiers, and practice your bartering skills during a visit to the souks of the city. Once you have got some souvenirs it is time to head back to Spain.

Day 25

Tarifa is the southernmost tip of Spain. Often host to the Windsurfing World Championships, it’s the perfect place to learn how to windsurf with the help of one of our expert coaches. Surf the waves and sail along the coastline in such an iconic setting.

This morning meet your local guide and explore Seville. La Giralda and the Alcazar are must-see locations in this beautiful Andalusian city. Seville is also where Spain’s most famous dance was created–the Flamenco. During your Flamenco workshop, learn the different moves and steps needed to dance like a local, before seeing how the professionals do it during your Flamenco Show Dinner.

This morning we’ll travel a little further north to Cordoba. You will be joined by a local guide who will take you on a tour of the city. An old Roman city that was latterly colonized by The Moors. Cordoba is graced by a number of buildings of religious significance. La Mezquita is the most iconic, it is also regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture. La Mezquita is unusual in that you will find a Roman Catholic church in the middle of a Mosque.

Day 29

Spend a day with the European Christian Mission volunteering on one of their service projects alongside Spanish volunteers. This is your chance to give back some of your time and make a difference in the local community.

Toledo, Spain

City of Three Cultures

Day 30

Your final day in Spain will be spent in Toledo. Toledo is known as the “Imperial City” for having been the main venue of the court of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, and as the “City of the Three Cultures” for the cultural influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews reflected in its history. This evening is your final dinner with your delegation. Share memories, laughs and most of all impress each other with your Spanish skills!
