Head out on adventures through the wilderness on a series of safaris showcasing the spectacular variety of animals in Africa. Understand the impact of humans on the natural environment and unearth the history of the continent during an unforgettable adventure through South Africa.

Please note that if a student is 16 years of age or younger and not traveling on flights with a leader or a parent, the airline may mandate Unaccompanied Minor Services be purchased for travel. Ticket information will be provided to families approximately 3 weeks prior to departure so that these services can be arranged between the parent and the airline direct. All fees associated with these services are the responsibility of the traveler and may be necessary round-trip.

The best way to get to know the locals? Food! Tuck into the true taste of Africa during an exclusive welcome dinner, complete with the unmistakeable sounds of Djembe Drumming. Discover a whole host of rich traditions and tasty dishes while taking part in a variety of specially arranged authentic activities and making a host of new friends.

Become immersed in local village life and culture

Your exclusive People to People community experience covers an extensive discussion on South African history, the legacy of Apartheid, political, social, economic, cultural and local issues. In addition to this discussion you’ll also be able to see an after school program where local children are taught dance, music and sport. This really will be an opportunity to interact with locals of your age.

Make a positive contribution to a variety of engaging community projects which will allow you to interact with local people and non-profit organizations fighting for worthy and valuable causes. Help out at a Women’s Skills Workshop, Animal Protection Centre, Refugee Training Centre or Youth Development Centre – there really are so many great ways to make a difference.

Support Rastafarian Outreach Projects

During an eye-opening experience, centre leaders will delight in introducing you to the uplifting gardens and rehabilitating nature of their work carried out by Rastafarian Community Outreach Programs where you’ll be able to contribute to one of their many outreach projects. This is your chance to really make a meaningful impact in the local community.

Visit Robben Island

During one of the highlights of your South African adventure, set out to the infamous Robben Island to uncover the truth about the notorious prison where Nelson Mandela was held for over twenty years. Gain a fascinating, first hand insight into the realities of what really went on here during a tour conducted by former inmates.

Kayaking with Penguins

In the beautiful surroundings of the sheltered coastline of Boulder Beach, get back to nature, South African style! The area is famed for a highly populated and playful Penguin Colony. Under expert guidance, slip on your waterproofs and explore the penguin’s natural habitat by kayak through crystal clear waters.

Cycling through Johannesburg

Discover the treasures of the Soweto Township, former home of Nelson Mandela, on a tour with a difference. Set out on a bicycle ride around its world famous sights under the expert eye of a knowledgeable local guide who will delight in showcasing Soweto’s many historical and political landmarks of this tour with a difference!

White Water Rafting

Tackle the unique challenges of White Water Rafting. During this exhilarating experience, carefully manoeuvre your raft along the river while spotting animals, fish and birdlife in the surrounding area’s lush vegetation. Push your limits under expert guidance as you test yourself like never before while enjoying a day packed with thrills and spills.

  • DAY 1

    Across the Atlantic
    Meet up with your fellow travelers and like-minded peers as you set out on your African adventure. Get to know your friends for the next few weeks before departing the USA and heading for Cape Town, situated on the southern tip of the African continent.
    Adjust to your new surroundings while tucking into your first taste of local cuisine. Sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere of Cape Town before getting some well-earned rest – you’ve got a big day ahead of you tomorrow!
  • DAY 2

    On Top of the World
    Arrive at the foot of one of the most famous mountains in the world, Table Mountain, named for its flat top and rippled sides that look like a just like a tablecloth! Take a breath-taking cable car journey to the top of the mountain and enjoy 360 degree panoramic views of the city of Cape Town and its surrounding natural wonders.
    Get to know the locals during a delicious welcome dinner, complete with the unmistakeable sounds of Djembe Drumming. Discover a whole host of rich traditions and tasty dishes while taking part in a variety of specially arranged authentic activities.

  • DAY 3

    Meet the Seals and Penguins
    Drive out to Boulders Beach in Simons Town, a striking sheltered coastline, home to the region’s famous Penguin Colony. Under expert guidance, slip on your waterproofs and explore the penguin’s natural habitat by kayak.
    After playtime with the penguins, continue on your scenic drive around Chapmans Peak and onto the town of Hout Bay. From here, embark on a leisurely cruise out to see the treasures of Seal Island. Unsurprisingly, this island is home to a whole host of seals, and offers one of the very best opportunities anywhere in the world to see these animals up close and personal.
  • DAYS 4 & 5

    The Spirit of Mandela

  • DAY 6

    Endless Flora and Fauna
    Travel along the scenic Route 62 through the rolling hills and endless plains of South Africa. Marvel at the natural vegetation of the area, dominated by the indigenous Fynbos plants for which South Africa is so famous.
    Gain a fascinating insight into how the region’s nature is harnessed by humans to make a living. Visit an Ostrich farm to learn the intricacies of rearing these amazing birds, as well as whole host of facts on the animals themselves from those in the know. Delve into the depths of Cango Caves to see its ancient stalactites in a truly amazing network of caverns and caves.
  • DAY 7

    Meerkats, Cheetahs and Crocs!
    Take a deep breath, you have an action packed day ahead of you! Enjoy an early morning Sunrise Meerkat Safari to learn about these charming and endearing creatures from the experts. Discover some of South Africa’s more dangerous animals at the Crocodile and Cheetah Wildlife Ranch specialising in the rescue of these endangered species.
    For your afternoon’s entertainment head to a Game Lodge and enjoy an open-air vehicle game drive lead by a team of knowledgeable and experienced guides. Get to know the animals, the vegetation and the positive work conducted by the many game preserves in South Africa.
  • DAY 8

    A Helping Hand
    Join a local Eco Excursion that plays host to a variety of educational approaches to environmental conservation before discovering the vital work being carried out by a Rastafarian Community Outreach Centre located in an authentic township.
    This really is an eye-opening experience, during which the centre leaders will delight in introducing you to their uplifting gardens and the rehabilitating nature of their work. Spend the afternoon helping out and contributing to the many outreach projects. This is your chance to make a meaningful impact in the local community.

  • DAY 9

    Welcome to Johannesburg
    Fly from the aptly named Garden Route to Johannesburg and begin exploring the many riches befitting a city that began as a 19th century goldmining settlement. Set off on a specially arranged, immersive orientation of this diverse and amazing place.
    There is no shortage of cultural and political history to discover in Johannesburg. Stop off at the Apartheid Museum for an expert introduction to this hugely influential period in South Africa’s turbulent past and attempt to understand the motivations behind both sides of a hard won fight that was played out on news broadcasts throughout world.
  • DAY 10

    Soweto Township
    Discover the treasures of the Soweto Township on a tour with a difference. Set out on a bicycle ride around this world famous township under the expert eye of a knowledgeable local guide that knows all the secret hidden gems of the area.
    Your enthusiastic guide will delight in showcasing Soweto’s many historical landmarks while sharing anecdotes of student uprisings. Visit the former home of Nelson Mandela, and current home of Bishop Desmond Tutu. Travel to Mpumalanga and prepare for your Kruger National Park exploration.
  • DAY 11

    Safari: The Big 5
    Spend an entire day at the Kruger National Park. During one of the highlights of your South African adventure, set out into one of the most famous game reserves in the world. Take your position in professional, open top vehicles alongside highly experienced rangers and begin your journey into the wild.
    You’ll be taught the fundamentals of game viewing and will have access to a wealth of in-depth knowledge of the African Bush. The main aim for today is to see all of the ‘big 5’ animals: Elephants, Rhinoceros, Lions, Leopards and Buffalos.
  • DAY 12

    White Water Rafting
    Spend the morning tackling the unique challenges of White Water Rafting. During this exhilarating experience, carefully manoeuvre your raft along the river while spotting animals, fish and birdlife in the surrounding area’s lush vegetation.
    During the afternoon, it’s time to get to know one of the most majestic animals in South Africa – Elephants! Spend time interacting with these magnificent creatures, learn from their experienced handlers and gain an understanding of just how intelligent these animals truly are.
  • DAY 13

    The View From God’s Window
    At P2PI, we like to give you as much control over your activities as possible. Today, you’ll have the choice of two truly insightful experiences, offering incredible exposure to Africa’s wildlife. Choose between spending time at Jane Goodall’s world renowned Chimpanzee Eden or the celebrated Cheetah Breeding Project.
    During the afternoon, take the scenic panorama route from Mpumalanga to Johannesburg. Pass by breath-taking countryside and genuine village life as you soak up the regions unique atmosphere before enjoying your final night in the continent of Africa.

  • DAY 14

    Goodbye Africa
    Soar high above Johannesburg and over the African plains that have been your home for the past few weeks. Gaze down on the land that has played host to an unforgettable array of astonishing experiences that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

  • DAY 15

    Arrive USA
    After your mammoth flight home, you will be touching back down on American soil with a wealth of new memories, skills and friendships that will not only serve to enhance your understanding of Africa, but also help better prepare you for a life out in the big wide (and occasionally wild) world.
