Master Martial Arts

Meet with local students to practice the most widely accepted authentic form of Chinese martial arts before exploring its origins at the Shaolin Temple, where you can also explore the wonders of The Pagoda Forest. No matter what your experience levels are your lesson will be tailored to your abilities, so can you master martial arts in no time!

The Great Wall of China

Journey through lush Chinese countryside to the famed Juyongguan section of the Great Wall. Walk some of the 3,000 miles belonging to one of mankind’s most remarkable accomplishments.     First impressions…
    Meet your experienced delegation manager upon touching in down in Beijing. Take in your new surroundings as you form those all-important first-impressions of this far off Oriental land.
    Soak up the atmosphere of China’s capital city and make yourself comfortable at your home for the next few days. Settle down for a good night’s rest – you’ll need it, as you have a big day ahead of you!
  • DAY 3

    Welcome to Beijing
    Take a deep breath, there’s a lot to get through! First up is a trip to Tian’anmen Square, a site steeped in a turbulent history. Next up is a fascinating tour of the Forbidden City, the world’s largest and most well-preserved Imperial Palace.
    It’s time for your first taste of Chinese cuisine. During a hands-on lesson at a local vocational school learn the key to preparing the traditional Chinese dish Dim Sum, then taste test your results! During the evening, you’ll be a guest of honor at a lavish banquet serving Peking duck, a classic Northern Chinese delicacy.

    The Great Wall

    Marvel in the splendour of the Summer Palace, an immense imperial garden dotted with breath-taking examples of Qing architecture. This graceful palace complex is located on the outskirts of Beijing, while the best way to enjoy the grounds is by boat on the beautiful Kunming Lake.

    The real China

    Continue your exploration of urban Chinese life by seizing your chance to meet a family residing in the Beijing’s Hutongs who will take you on a personal tour their home. Board a high-tech high-speed train to Luoyang and arrive in early evening in time for a tasty local meal.

    Martial Arts
    Meet with local students to practice the most widely accepted authentic form of Chinese martial arts before exploring its origins at the Shaolin Temple. Explore the wonders of The Pagoda Forest, including the 1400 year old Song Yue Pagoda.
    Attend an insightful workshop to discover the classical art known as Tang Tri-Color, which have become a symbol of the Tang Dynasty. Fortunately the secrets of this prized skill have been preserved to this day. Paint your own work, using your new-found knowledge, and keep it as a wonderful souvenir.

    Hidden Gems
    Uncover the wonders of the Longmen Grottoes, considered one of the top Grottoes of China. Take in 2345 shrines and 100,000 statues, painstakingly carved out of a cliff over a period of 400 years. The earliest carving was dated to 493 A.D, where construction started during the North Wei Dynasty.
    Return to the city and explore the hidden gems of the old town of Luoyang, which only the locals know about, with the help of your expert guide. Soak up your final moments in Luoyang before boarding a high speed train to Xi’an.

    Welcome to Xi’an
    Visit the Ming Dynasty City Wall, dating back to the 15th century. Enjoy a bike ride along the top of this ancient monument for truly unforgettable views of the area. Visit a local school and take this unique opportunity to make new friends and learn about their day to day lives in China.
    Take part in a friendly soccer or basketball game with local students to discover more about the realities of their social lives, and to test your sporting skills against your Chinese counterparts! Spend a magical evening enjoying a traditional Tang Dynasty show and dumpling banquet.

    Terracotta Warriors
    Delve into Xi’an’s history as you discover the museum of the Famous Terracotta Warriors, 8,000 life-size figures discovered by chance in 1974. Take part in a fascinating workshop that replicates the technique used in their production before gaining exclusive access to one of the villagers who discovered the warriors.
    Get an up-close view of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, originally built during the 7th century Tang Dynasty to hold breath-taking sutras and figurines of Buddha brought as gifts from India by a famed translator and traveler. Learn about ancient Chinese traditional painting during a unique insight into an ancient cultural practice that survives to this day.

    Natural Beauty
    Head to a picturesque small city located in southern China, Guilin, known for its natural beauty and stunning landscape. Immerse yourself in the magic of the area as you take in its famous lake views and limestone karst hills.
    Explore one of the famous caves of Guilin on a tour with a difference. Take rail carts, boats and even elevators to navigate the vast underground tunnels. Study the unique rock formations with expert assistance as you uncover the secrets of this natural wonder. Get some well-earned rest, as tomorrow you’ll begin your once in a life time experience of Chinese life.
  • DAY 11

    The Genuine Chinese Experience
    Visit a local tea plantation to learn how Chinese tea is made, a staple of Chinese life. Set sail down the picturesque Yulong River on a bamboo raft and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area before arriving in Hongyan Village to be welcomed with open arms by your home stay family.
    Prepare a traditional family dinner with your specially selected hosts before heading out for the evening. Get to know how the wider community socializes during a village welcome dance. Learn a few traditional dance moves, where you’ll have the option to showcase your talents at a variety show, or just watch on as your friends do!
  • DAY 12

    A Helping hand
    Repay the kindness and generosity of your host villagers by helping local farmers in their orchard before a visit to the Confucius Temple. The world renowned temple, named after one of the most famous thinkers and educators in Chinese history, places a huge importance on values of education and respect.
    While visiting the temple, study a unique folk ceremony called Nuo Mask Dancing, with the help of an expert master artist. The art of Nuo Mask consists of special dancing performed during worshipping or celebrations and are truly moving experiences. Watch a performance, learn a few steps yourself and create your own Nuo Mask to take home.
  • DAY 13

    Welcome to Shanghai
    Immerse yourself in the wonders of Shanghai, a truly global city where commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transportation come together in exciting and intriguing ways. Soak up the atmosphere in a city that seems to seamlessly blend Eastern and Western culture – although it wasn’t always that way!
    Visit the Bund waterfront, the instantly recognizable European style landmarks and buildings situated along the banks of the river that reflect the colonial past of the city. Take in a breath-taking, birds-eye view of Shanghai from the summit of the Shanghai Center. Spend your first evening in the city attending a thrilling acrobatic show.
  • DAY 14

    Giving back to the community
    Demonstrate your community spirit as you give back to the warm, friendly people of China by participating in a specially arranged People to People service project at the Qixing Special Education School in Shanghai.
    Walk through a local silk reeling factory and see the finished works of local artisans before visiting a Shanghai folk music instrument factory to learn how these traditional Chinese instruments are used and made. Let your hair down while immersed in the sounds of this cultural phenomenon.
  • DAY 15

    From ancient arts to Ping Pong
    Journey to Suzhou, a city located in the middle of the Yangtze River Delta. As over 40% of the city is covered in water it is aptly referred to as the ‘Venice of the Orient’. Stop off at the Panmen Gate to fly kites before an insightful Chinese Calligraphy lesson at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Yipu Garden.
    Visit a Ping Pong academy to get to know young athletes in training. Learn about this culturally iconic game and be prepared for a friendly challenge or two! Discover the different approaches to training regimes between American and Chinese athletes, as well as the pressures placed on their young shoulders.
  • DAY 16

    The sounds of Suzhou
    Visit the Kun Opera Museum and learn about the origins of this traditional Chinese performing art from the experts. You’ll also be able to enjoy the unique opportunity of interacting with local performers and trainers at the world renowned school.
    Following lunch, cruise through the ancient canal system that winds its way around the city. Away from the hustle and bustle of the streets you can enjoy spectacular views of the real the Suzhou. Following your return to Shanghai, it’s time to try your bargaining skills at the famous local bazaar. Grab some last minute souvenirs as a memento for your time spent in China.

    Farewell!
    Bid goodbye to your Delegation Manager as you soak up your final few moments spent enjoying the many wonders of the Orient.
    Look back on a spectacular seventeen days and reflect on how your understanding of Chinese culture has changed. Return home with expanded horizons and a wealth of new friends and experiences that will better prepare you further education and rewarding vocations.
