Meeting a former Member of Parliament in London

It is that time of the year when we are finalizing our plans to welcome our many People to People Delegations to our various destinations all across the world.

Yesterday, I was in London at the amazing Sky Garden to meet Patrick Nicholls.  I’ll let you into a little secret about the Sky Garden in a moment!

Patrick has been a longstanding supporter of People to People’s mission.  He is a former Member of Parliament and was a Minister in Margaret Thatcher’s Government.  Patrick has spoken with many of our delegations over the years.  Indeed, Patrick has his own People to People following, keeping in touch with teachers, alumni students and many others who have had the pleasure of meeting him.

Each summer, Patrick speaks to each of our delegations traveling through London, speaking about the British constitution, the role of the Monarchy within and its comparison with the American constitution.  This year, to recognize the current situation, Patrick will also talk about Brexit – Britain making the decision to leave the European Union.  As an extra bit of sparkle, he might also take a few questions about the “Wedding of the Year” – there is much excitement that Meghan Markle will become a member of the Royal Family on her marriage to HRH Prince Harry!

So, start preparing your questions for Patrick!

Incidentally, a little secret worth keeping in mind is that the Sky Garden offers the most amazing views over London – the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast (the war ship moored on The Thames).  The Sky Garden is situated in one of the most famous skyscrapers in London known as the “Walkie Talkie” due to the unique shape of the building.  It is one of London’s best kept secrets, because it is free to enter and offers probably one of the best selfie opportunities in our fabulous capital city.

Patrick and I look forward to welcoming those of you traveling to London in a few months’ time.
