Program Details
Day 1
Arrive at the airport in Boston, where you’ll meet your leaders and the rest of your People to People Student Travel Delegation. Head into the city, check into your hotel, and attend a Welcome Dinner to get to know your fellow world travelers.
Day 2
This morning, take part in a workshop at a biotech company and meet researchers leading groundbreaking studies. After lunch, board a duck boat for a one-of-a-kind sightseeing tour of Boston from both land and water.
Day 3
Meet like-minded students on a visit to a local STEM Association, where you’ll have the chance to debate and discuss the future of science and the importance of science today. Afterwards, head over to the world-class Museum of Science, and immerse yourself in its wide-ranging interactive exhibits.
Day 4
Today you’ll visit a Boston-based company at the forefront of technology, getting a glimpse of how science will shape our lives in the years to come. After looking toward the future, take a look back into the past—walk along Boston’s Freedom Trail and learn about the people behind the American Revolution. After dinner, it’s time to board your overnight flight to Iceland.
Day 5
Arrive in Iceland early in the day, and travel straight to Viking World. Explore the five exhibition museums, including the historic Viking ship. Next, head over to the world-famous Blue Lagoon and take some time to get rejuvenated after your overnight flight. End the day in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland.
Day 6
Spend the morning exploring the Hellisheidi Geothermal and Ljosafoss Power Plants. Next, drive to Fridheimar Greenhouse, where you’ll gain key insights into the processes of greenhouse horticulture. Continue to a beautiful waterfall, stunning geysers, and Þingvellir, site of the world’s oldest democratic parliament. Along the way you’ll see a beautiful canyon that is actually the fault line between two of the Earth’s tectonic plates.
Day 7
Drive from Reykjavik to the mountains, including the ice-capped volcano Eyjafjallajökull, last active in 2010. Visit the LAVA Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the creation of Iceland. See two spectacular waterfalls, and later, travel back to Reykjavik with one final stop at the Solheimajokull glacier.
Day 8
Depart Iceland for London early this morning. For centuries London has been one of the world’s most influential cities. Over the next few days you’ll see just how much it has to offer in iconic sights, diverse cultures, museums and more. Tour the very best of London, see iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge, The Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square.
Day 9
Today you’ll take part in the Opening Ceremony of the London International Youth Science Forum. Founded in 1959, LIYSF aims to give a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind, and to develop a greater understanding between young people of all nations. This is your chance to hear from leading scientists and to discover how STEM subjects can be applied in a variety of occupations.
Day 10
Visit the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s greatest education institutions. Enjoy a specially organized visit to a laboratory or industry-leading scientific organization. You’ll meet scientists and learn about exploratory work, trials, and the processes of research and development. This is your chance to see science in action in the real world.
Day 11
This morning, take part in a scientific workshop with one of London’s major science facilities. Later, visit the Tower of London, home to the Crown Jewels and over a thousand years of fascinating history. Tonight, top off this action-packed day with dinner and a theater performance in London’s West End.
Day 12
Participate in a specially tailored talk by a mathematics expert. Discuss details of their current work and how it influences society. Later, you’ll have the chance to make a difference in the local community with a service project centered on conservation.
Day 13
This morning, take a factory tour of the famous British car manufacturer, Mini Cooper, and discover the technology required for the design and production. After the factory visit, enjoy time to explore the beautiful city of Oxford, including the grounds of its world-renowned university.
Day 14
Today join a fascinating lecture on engineering. Later in the afternoon, take a ride on the famous Coca-Cola London Eye, taking in the amazing views from high above the city.
Day 15
Set out for Paris aboard the Eurostar, speeding through the Channel Tunnel, one of the most impressive engineering accomplishments of recent times. Get to know Paris from above as you climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower, an historic architectural feat itself. Afterwards, head over to the breathtaking Notre Dame Cathedral.
Day 16
Take a guided sightseeing tour of Paris, from Notre Dame to the the world-renowned Champs-Elysées and Arc de Triomphe. Along the way, be sure to appreciate all of Paris’s incredible architecture. Later, visit the Palais de la Découverte, part of Universcience, where you’ll learn about fundamental and contemporary sciences during interactive experiments explained by scientists.
Day 17
Visit the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, the biggest science museum in Europe. Don’t miss the planetarium and the Argonaute submarine. Later, visit one of the world’s most famous museums, the Louvre. The museum was once a palace, and today it’s filled with a huge collection of priceless works of art, including the one and only Mona Lisa.
Day 18
After your voyage of scientific discovery, fly back across the Atlantic on your journey home, bringing with you a wealth of new knowledge, friends, and memories that will last a lifetime.
