Meet your student travel delegation and board your flight to Madrid, Spain. Now is a good time to start speaking less English and more Spanish. During your month in Spain you’ll be completely immersed in the Spanish language, and you’ll be encouraged to speak it as much as possible.

Welcome to Madrid! Hit the ground running with a specially-designed orientation tour that showcases the Spanish capital and its world-renowned landmarks. Unearth the secrets of the city, see the treasures of the Royal Palace, and learn all about the history and people of this amazing city.

Day 3

Learn more about Madrid through the eyes of Spanish high school students. On this one-of-a-kind tour of the city, the students will show you Madrid as they experience it—find out about their favorite spots and the city’s best kept secrets, all while making new friends and practicing your Spanish. End the tour with a visit to the world-renowned Prado Museum.

Day 4

Continue to Segovia, where a professional guide will lead you on a sightseeing tour of the city. Pay a visit to Segovia’s 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct, and then head to the beautiful Alcazar, which is said to have been the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Finish off your day by trying cochinillo (roasted suckling pig), Segovia’s local dish and a favorite throughout Spain.

Take a drive to the city of Bilbao in the Basque Country, stopping for lunch on the way in Burgos, the one-time capital of Spain. Once in Bilbao, your Delegation Manager will lead an orientation tour of the city, and you’ll visit the world-famous Guggenheim Museum.

Day 6

Show your appreciation for the communities you’re visiting by taking part in a day of service work in the Greater Basque region. Make a difference in people’s lives and practice your Spanish alongside local student volunteers.

Day 7

San Sebastián is a beautiful seaport town known for its beaches, art and food. Today you’ll join an interactive tapas workshop, where a professional chef will teach you all about this important part of Spain’s cuisine and culture. Once you’ve perfected your skills and had a chance to eat some tapas for yourself, you’ll head to the beach for a little rest and relaxation.

Day 8

Travel through the Spanish countryside to historical Zaragoza. Visit the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, a beautiful cathedral believed to be integral in bringing Christianity to Spain. After your visit, continue on to the vibrant city of Barcelona, one of the world’s most loved destinations.

Spend the day on Barcelona’s world-famous beaches with a group of local high school students. Discover new beach sports, put your Spanish skills to good use, and get an insider’s view of what life is like for young people in Barcelona.

Joined by an expert local guide, lose yourself in the fantasy-like architecture of Antoni Gaudí. Take in the unique beauty of La Sagrada Família and Parc Güell, two of his most famous creations. Later, a scavenger hunt will give you the chance to explore the city in depth, learn the history, and practice the language.

Arrive in Valencia to a warm welcome by your homestay family. Over the next seven days, you’ll attend Spanish language courses at an international school for 5 days and embrace the Spanish lifestyle with your host family. It’s time to say goodbye to your host family after an unforgettable week together. Travel on to the city of Granada, where you’ll spend the night. Take in the city’s beautiful medieval architecture, dating back to the Moorish occupation.

Day 19

Visit the jewel of Granada—the Alhambra. Originally constructed in AD 889 as a small fortress, the Alhambra was rebuilt into a palace in the middle of the 13th century. Later, spend the afternoon exploring the shops, cafes and parks throughout the city.

Day 20

Visit the Sierra Nevada National Park, the largest national park in Spain. Take a hike and enjoy the views from some of Spain’s tallest peaks. After lunch, visit the Alcaiceria, which was once The Great Bazaar of Granada, and is now a great place to practice your improved Spanish skills as your shop for local souvenirs.

Day 21

Explore more of the Andalusia region as you drive south to Málaga. A major vacation destination for Europeans, Málaga is also the home of Picasso. This afternoon, you’ll visit Picasso’s birthplace before trying your hand at painting in a Picasso Artist workshop.

The King's Little Pathway

Day 22

Walk along El Caminito del Rey, a pathway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge. The path was originally built for local workers at two power plants to transport materials. King Alfonso XIII walked along it in 1921, giving it a royal connection that it carries to this day.

Day 23

A little bit of Great Britain can be found 90 miles south of Málaga in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. After a cable car ride up to the top of the famous rock, take in the stunning views over the Straights of Gibraltar and across to North Africa. Explore the rock’s hidden places as you venture down into the vast St. Michael’s Caves.

Day 24

Today you’ll board a ferry for a day trip to Morocco. Learn about the beautiful port city of Tangier, discovering its many influences throughout history. Practice your bartering skills during a visit to the city’s souks, before returning to Spain.

Day 25

Continue on to Tarifa, located along the southernmost tip of Spain. Often host to the Windsurfing World Championships, it’s the perfect place to step outside your comfort zone and learn how to windsurf with the help of an expert coach.

The Flamenco

Day 26

This morning set out on a tour of Seville, the capital of Andalusia and birthplace of flamenco. After visiting La Giralda and the Alcázar, you’ll participate in a flamenco workshop. Then sit back and watch the professionals perform at a flamenco dinner show.

Kayaking the Guadalquivir

Day 27

Take in beautiful views of Seville from a new perspective, as you kayak down the Guadalquivir River. Learn about the history of Seville—and about the Guadalquivir River’s significant role in that story—as you paddle past important sights like the Torre del Oro, Triana Bridge and the Maestranza.

Depart Seville for Córdoba, a city of great importance in both Roman and Moorish history. Visit La Mezquita, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important works of Islamic architecture in the world.

Day 29

Spend a day lending a hand alongside Spanish volunteers, as you take part in a community service project. This is your chance to give back and make a meaningful contribution to a local community.

Day 30

Your final day in Spain will be spent in Toledo, a city rich in history and culture. Toledo is known both as the Imperial City, for its ties to the Roman Empire, and as the City of the Three Cultures, for the influences of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Tonight, enjoy a final dinner with your student travel delegation. Share memories and accomplishments, and most of all impress each other with your improved Spanish skills.
