Meet The Leaders
Paula is from Hebron, Ohio. She received her BA in Journalism and Public Relations and her MA in Education from Ohio State University. She teaches language arts, social studies and religion. She has traveled with People to People since 2006, and has traveled to China, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy and Greece with students. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, photography, reading, and sewing. She loves to give back to her community. She belongs to a group that works to enrich the lives of local children, makes baby blankets to welcome newborn children to her parish, and makes turbans for those who have lost hair due to illness or chemotherapy.
“My goal is to help the students have the best experience possible. I love being able to experience new adventures with them and seeing the world through their eyes.”
Linda is from Shelton, CT. She has a Master’s in Communication Disorders, a Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Foundations, and an Administrative Certificate. She has been a speech pathologist for twenty-one years, specializing in Autism. This will be her seventh People to People program. She has traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Costa Rica, South Africa, London, Paris, France, Italy, Scotland, England and Ireland with student delegates. Linda loves sharing new experiences with her students, meeting new people, and traveling the world.
“I am most looking forward to our service project in Aegina. It’s always a rewarding experience when we are able to give back and help out a community.”
Merly is from El Paso, TX. She received her BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso. Merly currently teaches AP Spanish and is the International Baccalaureate Spanish Teacher. She also served as a Montessori Director for four years. Merly has led People to People programs to Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Greece and Australia. On her own, she has traveled to Russia, Belgium, China, Canada, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Puerto Rico and Mexico. When she’s not traveling, Merly likes to read Spanish Literature, watch soccer, and exercise.
“One of my favorite things is learning about other cultures and instilling this knowledge to my students. I am looking forward to another great year of preparation, bonding and growth.”
Michelle is from Monroe, CT and studied at Sacred Heart University. Michelle is a special education tutor, head coach of the varsity girls ice hockey team and a professional ice-skating instructor. She is currently working with special needs children to take them to the Special Olympics to compete in figure skating competitions. She also works as a counselor for adolescents with eating and mental health disorders. This will be Michelle’s fourth program with People to People, she has previously traveled to Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Costa Rica.
