People to People Moments
- Be welcomed into a South African community for dinner, and learn more about living like a local.
- Spend some class time with local students, and compare notes on school systems.
- Meet a former political detainee of Robben Island who will educate you about its bleak history.
- Help meet local needs through more than 20 hours of group service projects in local schools, organizations, and communities.

Top Program Activities
- Go on safari in the Bushveld area of Kruger National Park, and watch for South Africa’s Big Five—leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant, and rhino—in their natural environment.
- Work side by side with inspiring volunteers in disadvantaged communities and orphanages.
- Gaze into the stunning night sky as you listen for lions roaring in the distance.
- Explore the Cape Peninsula, and delight in watching the penguins at Cape Point.
- Gain a unique perspective on the history of apartheid at the Apartheid Museum and Nelson Mandela’s family home.
- Delve into the Apartheid Museum and the beating heart of the struggle for equality that consumed South Africa for so long.
- Visit a primary school to learn some South African games and dances—and share a meal—with your new friends.

Cape Town, South Africa
- Explore Robben Island with a former political detainee to learn about the notorious island’s past—and then learn about the island’s future at Robben’s only school.
- Discover where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet off Cape Point.
- Observe the resident penguins at Seaforth Beach.
- Spend a day in a local high school helping students with their projects.
- Lend a hand by working side by side with volunteers in local service projects in schools, organizations, and after-school programs.
Johannesburg, South Africa
- Explore the famous South West Township, better known as Soweto, and visit Nelson Mandela’s family home.
- Try your hand at the rhythms of Africa in a drumming circle.
- Join in South African games and dancing during a visit to a local primary school.
- Be introduced to some of the traditional cultures of South Africa, and enjoy trying a variety of local flavors for dinner.
- Visit the groundbreaking Apartheid Museum.
- Shop as you never have before at the African Craft Market in Rosebank—a unique African experience.
Tshukudu Bush Camp, South Africa
- Learn about the camp’s lion-breeding project, and do your part to help the nearly 300 lions benefiting from this fascinating program.
- Watch for South Africa’s Big Five—leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant, and rhino—in their natural environment.
- Learn from your bush guide about this amazing region, and get up close and personal with a few of its residents!
- Spend the clear African nights around the campfire at the boma, a traditional circular meeting spot, at the bush camp, and don’t be surprised if curious monkeys or hornbills come in to get a closer look at you and your fellow Ambassadors!
