Day 1
Welcome to Washington, D.C.
- Proceed through registration, and join your fellow Student Leaders for welcome activities while your family attends orientation.
- Participate in your first leadership-group meeting, and learn more about your teacher leader, your group, and the program's activities.
- Find out more about the history of People to People, and get to know the staff who will be guiding you through the program.
- Hear from a noteworthy guest speaker.
- Relax with your roommates before bed checks and lights out.
Day 2
Remembering the Past, Building the Future
- Board your motor coach for Arlington National Cemetery. Once there, walk among thousands of fallen soldiers honored by their country for their service.
- Make your way up to John F. Kennedy's gravesite to observe the Eternal Flame.
- Witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, and understand the impact each soldier's life has made on this country.
- Get the scoop at the Newseum, an interactive experience that traces five centuries of news-gathering history and technology.
- Remember the sacrifice of 16 million American soldiers and their families at the World War II Memorial.
- Continue your exploration of the region's monuments and memorials at the Korean War Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
- Visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where you will experience the exhibit Remember the Children: Daniel's Story. Daniel, age 10, is a composite of the Jewish children who experienced the war.
- Share your thoughts on the day's events with your peers during your leadership meeting.
Day 3
Understanding U.S. Government
- Explore the Capitol, and learn more about the branches of government.
- Share lunch with fellow Student Leaders in the District before making your way to the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and other sites on "the Hill."
- Gain valuable insight from a former or current member of Congress as to what it takes to make and shape policy.
- Sample international cuisine and hear from accomplished speakers in the field of international diplomacy at an embassy dinner.
- Return to the hotel for your evening leadership meeting.
Day 4
Washington, D.C.—Capital Highlights
- Experience America’s wonders—both natural and manmade—when you visit the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History and National Air and Space Museum.
- Continue to the National Museum of American History, to appreciate the world’s greatest single collection of American artifacts dating from the War of Independence to the present day.
- See and learn about the Washington Monument.
- Continue your exploration of the region’s monuments at the memorials to Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Day 5
Philadelphia—A Nation Is Born
- Travel to Philadelphia this morning.
- Explore Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
- Stroll through Benjamin Franklin’s city, and learn why the founding fathers believed that “all men are created equal.”
- Ring in another year of American independence at the Liberty Bell.
- Interact with history at the National Constitution Center, and understand what “we, the people” really means.
- Continue to New York City, and have a leadership-group meeting after check-in at your hotel.
Day 6
New York City—International Diplomacy and Finance
- Get an inside look at the United Nations headquarters.
- Learn about the work of the United Nations firsthand from the Iraqi Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Hamid Al-Bayati.
- Dive into the New York experience, walking the Brooklyn Bridge and the Financial District.
- Experience the heart of New York City in bustling Times Square.
- Take in breathtaking views of New York’s skyline from the “Top of the Rock” observation deck at Rockefeller Center.
- Enjoy the best in American entertainment at a Broadway show.
Day 7
New York City—National Treasures
- Glimpse the lives and the hopes of American immigrants from centuries past on Ellis Island.
- Enjoy the United States’ most famous urban retreat: Central Park.
- Make your way back to your hotel in Washington, D.C. to pack, and have your final leadership meeting before saying good night.
Day 8
Farewell
- Awake early for your family’s arrival or transport via private shuttle to the airport.
- Enjoy a final People to People breakfast, and bid farewell to your new friends.
