Day 1
Welcome to Washington, D.C.
- Proceed through registration, and join your fellow People to People Student Leaders for welcome activities while your family attends orientation.
- Participate in your first leadership-group meeting, and learn more about your teacher leader, your group, and the program’s activities.
- Find out more about the history of People to People Ambassador Programs, and get to know the staff who will be guiding you through the program.
- Relax with your roommates before bed checks and lights out.
Day 2
Understanding U.S. government
- Enjoy breakfast with your leadership group at the hotel.
- Board the motor coach, and meet your driver and delegation manager for the week.
- Explore America’s foundations at Constitution Gardens: the memorial to the 56 signatories of the Declaration of Independence.
- See and learn about the Washington Monument.
- Visit Arlington National Cemetery. Once there, walk among the graves of thousands of fallen soldiers honored by their country for their service.
- Make your way up to John F. Kennedy’s grave to observe the Eternal Flame.
- Witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, and understand the impact each soldier’s life has made on this country.
- Share lunch with fellow Student Leaders in the district before visiting the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials.
- Share your thoughts on the day’s events with your peers during your leadership meeting.
Day 3
Philadelphia: A nation is born
- Ring in another year of American independence at Independence National Historic Park
- Explore Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
- Stroll through Benjamin Franklin’s city, and learn why the founding fathers believed that “all men are created equal.”
- Interact with history at the National Constitution Center, and understand what “we, the people” really means.
- Be inspired and educated by Thomas Jefferson as you hear from first-person-interpreter, historian, and motivational speaker Steven Edenbo.
- Enjoy dinner in Philadelphia before heading back to Washington, D.C.
- Participate in your nightly leadership meeting upon arrival at the hotel.
Day 4
Celebrate America’s independence
- Start your day with a breakfast cruise on the Potomac River and venture to Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, home of the first U.S. president. While there, take part in an unforgettable Independence Day celebration.
- Take in the country’s most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks celebration as you enjoy music and fireworks with unforgettable views of Washington, D.C.
Day 5
Exploring Washington, D.C.
- Explore the United States Capitol building and Capitol Visitors Center, and learn more about the branches of government.
- Continue your exploration of the region’s monuments and memorials at the Korean War Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
- Learn the importance of the free press at the Newseum, an unparalleled interactive museum experience that traces five centuries of news-gathering history and technology.
- Wrap up your day with small-group discussion and learning in your leadership meeting.
Day 6
Remembering the past, building the future
- Hear from your keynote speaker, Cokie Roberts, Emmy Award-winning senior news analyst for NPR, and bestselling author.
- Remember the sacrifice of 16 million American soldiers as your delegation lays a wreath at the World War II Memorial.
- See the original Star Spangled Banner, the flag that inspired the National Anthem at Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
- Appreciate the magic of a live performance at the Kennedy Center.
- Return to your hotel for a chance to pack, and have your final leadership meeting before saying goodnight.
Day 7
Farewell
- Awake early for your family’s arrival or transport via private shuttle to the airport.
- Enjoy a final breakfast, and bid farewell to your new friends.
