Student Academic Credit
Pre-travel study and discussion combine with hands-on experiences during each program to create People to People’s accredited curriculum, developed over decades of international travel.
The academic recognition available to delegates as part of their program varies with students’ age:
Students in grades 5-8 earn a Certificate of Completion from the
Washington School of World Studies. Added to a student’s educational portfolio, this document helps add credibility on scholarship and university applications and may be presented to classroom teachers for possible extra credit.
Students in grades 9-12 earn one semester elective social studies credit and 10 service-learning hours from the Washington School of World Studies for completion of a community service project while on the program. Athletes in grades 9-12 earn one semester elective physical education credit, as well as one semester elective social studies credit.
Students in grades 7-12 may enroll with Eastern Washington University (EWU) to complete additional work and earn 1-5 college credits on a wide range of topics at a reasonable cost. Getting a head start on a college education shows admissions officers an impressive independence and interest in the world.
Adult Academic Credit
Educators leading our student delegations, depending on the grade level involved, may earn continuing education units (CEU).
Citizen Ambassador Programs delegations may qualify for credit/contact hours in cooperation with specific professional associations. These include:
- Medical delegation for physicians: People to People Citizen Ambassador Programs will apply for continuing medical education credits for all qualifying educational activities. Delegations are generally granted 10-20 hours of continuing education credit. The number of credits granted (based on itinerary) will be confirmed prior to the time of travel.
- Medical delegations for nurses: generally awarded 10.0 – 20.0 contact hours through the joint sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and People to People Citizen Ambassador Programs. The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
- Law delegations: generally approved for legal education credits through the individual state (state bar, state court, etc.). These are on a case-by-case basis, so if credits are available, delegates will have been informed of the expected credits in the original invitation letter or an outline of available credits can be requested approximately 3-4 weeks prior to travel from our office. Credits are applied for based only on the delegate’s state of residence and only in states with MCLE requirements.
Other types of credit opportunities may be available on select delegations. Your program representative will provide details.
