Law

Worldwide political and economic upheaval combined with the dynamic growth of international trade raise the demand for law professionals who possess a global viewpoint. In this new century, People to People holds the leading edge in providing opportunities for law professionals to meet and exchange ideas internationally.

People to People Citizen Ambassador law projects focus on specialized areas of legal practice ranging from international trade law to criminal law to public health law. Related delegations may be composed of judges, law enforcement personnel, professors, arbitration and mediation specialists, paralegals, administrators, criminologists, and others. You will:

  • Meet with your foreign counterparts and government officials in briefings, discussion sessions, site visits, and supporting social activities.
  • Learn about foreign legal and judicial systems, politics, economy, history, and culture.
  • Establish a foundation of friendship with your foreign colleagues.
"Lawyers in the United States tend to get caught up in their local legal scene. It's good for us to go out and see the challenges experienced by our counterparts in other countries such as Cambodia, which has only 400 lawyers for 13 million people in a country recovering from genocide. Whether their country stands or falls will depend in part on the strength and legitimacy of the legal system they are struggling to put in place. We, as individuals, really can make a difference just by sitting down one on one and exchanging ideas that may help move that process forward."
– Richard Pena, Board of Governors, American Bar Association, and long-time People to People Citizen Ambassador delegation leader
