FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MRS. LAURA W. BUSH AND KATIE COURIC HEADLINE PEOPLE TO PEOPLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAMS’ WORLD LEADERSHIP FORUMS
Dynamic speakers to share lifelong experiences, help inspire future leaders

SPOKANE, WA – October 21, 2009 – People to People Ambassador Programs, the leader in global educational travel experiences, today announced that Mrs. Laura W. Bush and Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, will keynote the 2010 World Leadership Forums in Washington, D.C. Couric is scheduled to speak to students on September 17, and the former first lady is scheduled to speak on September 24. The World Leadership Forum is part of People to People’s premiere Leadership Programs that teach students from around the world important leadership and teamwork skills through workshops, community service projects, and up-close discussions with top government leaders and well-respected authorities on service and leadership.

Students in grades five through eight attending the program next fall will also have an opportunity to hear from Australia Prime Minister John Howard and popular youth speaker Sean Covey, author of the international bestseller, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

“With our Leadership Programs, we bring together high caliber speakers and students from across the globe,” said Peg Thomas, president of People to People Ambassador Programs. “The World Leadership Forum is a unique educational travel opportunity for our students to have access to extraordinary people who will share their own personal stories and experiences to help students better prepare for their own futures.”

Students who recently attended the 2009 World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., heard from General Colin Powell, who discussed what it takes to be a leader and how to take charge of their own lives in times of frequent change. General Powell also engaged in a spirited conversation with the students who had many probing questions about his life as a military leader. They also heard from astronaut Roger Crouch, who took two space shuttle flights into space as a payload specialist after working for years as a NASA scientist, never giving up his dream of flying into space.

This past summer, students traveled to Chicago with People to People Ambassador Programs to walk in the political footsteps of Presidents Obama and Lincoln, and heard firsthand insight from NBC News correspondent Luke Russert, who reports on youth issues for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show and MSNBC. Russert talked to students about his experiences covering the 2008 historic presidential election and the impact the Millennial Generation can make on the world as the largest and most diverse generation in American history. He also had an intimate small group discussion about the political process and his career with college students also in attendance. Students attending this program heard from political strategist David Plouffe as well, best known as the chief campaign manager for Barack Obama’s 2008 unprecedented presidential campaign. Plouffe discussed how he and his innovative team used technology to engage younger voters. He also challenged students to make their voices heard on the issues they are passionate about, and to take an active role in local government.
