FORMER U.S. WORLD CUP HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON TO LEAD PEOPLE TO PEOPLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAMS NEW ZICO CUP SOCCER TOURNEY IN BRAZIL NEXT SUMMER
Sampson Named Soccer Commissioner for 2010 Sports Ambassador Travel Season
SPOKANE, Wash. – December 3, 2009 – People to People Ambassador Programs, the leader in global educational travel experiences, today named Steve Sampson, former U.S. World Cup, Costa Rica National Team, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Santa Clara University head coach, as Soccer Commissioner for the 2010 Sports Ambassadors travel season. Sampson, who has been actively involved with People to People Sports Ambassadors Programs for the past three years, will lead elite coaches and student-athletes on a 14-day international soccer program in Brazil called the Zico Cup Futebol Tournament.
Traveling to Brazil from July 8 to July 21, 2010, student-athletes ages 13–18 will experience challenging competition with soccer athletes from across South America and receive personalized instruction from Steve Sampson and a group of expert coaches he has personally selected to help guide and teach soccer athletes throughout this unique program. Student-athletes will train and stay at the world-renowned Olé Brazil Futebol Club, tour the Museum of Futebol, explore the famous Maracanã Stadium, and celebrate the rich history of soccer in Brazil.

People to People’s Sports Ambassadors are student-athletes in grades 7–12 who have the opportunity to train, travel, and compete internationally in the Zico Cup Futebol Tournament, Soccer Cup Tournament, Basketball Classic Tournament, Tennis Invitational Tournament, or Volleyball Open Tournament. While abroad, student-athletes also experience diverse cultures and meet athletes and coaches from around the world.
