Delegation Leader Karen Jacobs, EdD, OTR/L, CPE, FAOTA recently returned from her tenth People to People Occupational Therapy focused delegation for CAP. Karen is a past president and vice president of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Dr. Jacobs is a clinical professor of occupational therapy and the program director of the distance education post-professional occupational therapy programs at Boston University. She earned a doctoral degree at the University of Massachusetts, a Master of Science at Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
After her most recent delegation return from Delhi, Jaipur & Agra, India she let us know that she is in the final stages of arranging for five of her OT graduate students to volunteer at DISHA in July and August later this year. The students are thrilled to have this opportunity to work with the students and staff at DISHA and DISHA has very generously agreed to provide complimentary housing for the students. It is wonderful to have this sustainable project in place.
DISHA is a Resource Centre for the Disabled established in 1995, with 18 original students. DISHA was the first center to provide all services under one roof for persons with cerebral palsy, physical and mental challenges, and other neurological conditions. They aim to provide an opportunity for children with physical and multiple disabilities to discover themselves and develop their potential; to provide a platform for advocacy and awareness; and to provide community based rehabilitation.
